Initially, the BBC reported the reason for his death was considered to be a "cardiac event." Later, it was reported that the actual cause of death was accidental positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication.

His struggles with alcohol went on for 40 years, and at some point, he understood that he was not going to survive it. Tyler, in fact, also mentioned that he had flatlined three times. Twice because of alcohol poisoning and once because of alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Tyler also experienced delirium tremens. This is a severe and potentially life-threatening complication of alcohol withdrawal. During this period, he fell and hit himself on the head in the washroom. He needed to be operated upon, after which he awoke with no memory. He took a long time to recover.

Tyler also struggled with bipolar disorder, because of which he experienced homelessness.

Despite the setbacks, he did not give up. He took one step at a time and was looking forward to hitting the milestone of 50 years. Which, he did. He was also looking to hit the ground running and restart his career. However, this was not meant to be.

Yet, his battles showed the world that there is hope. He used his voice to advocate for behavioral healthcare. This is the real mark he left behind, something that must be celebrated. Something that is very much needed.
